5 Professional Tips to Remember This Fall

Welcome back to campus, Blue Hens!

After a proactive summer, it’s that time of year again– the semester has begun. Two weeks in and hopefully you’ve finalized your schedule, established a routine and stayed organized through it all.

Fall semester can be a hectic time for students. With summer officially over, getting back into the swing of things can be a challenge. As your schedule starts to fill up once again with exams, papers and extra-curriculars, don’t allow your professionalism to go on the back burner.

We’re here to help!

Here are 5 Professional Tips to Remember This Fall.

1. Update your Resume

Now that your summer internship or volunteer experience has ended, it’s time to update your resume! Keeping it up-to-date shows just how proactive you are even in the summer months. Need help perfecting it? Stop by the Career Services Center from 2-4 p.m. on Mondays-Fridays for open resume hours OR meet with your career liaison for a one-to-one meeting.

2. Edit your LinkedIn Profile

Your resume should not be the only thing up-to-date. Revising your LinkedIn profile is also critical to maintaining your professionalism. Think of LinkedIn as an online resume and networking tool. More and more often, employers will check LinkedIn before reading a paper resume. Make sure yours represents you in the best way! Need help establishing a LinkedIn presence? Keep up-to-date with our LinkedIn workshops through our website; we post when our next workshops will be held! Also, check out this article about the five keys to establishing a social media presence.

3. Fix your Social Media

What you post online is public. Make sure your tweets, Facebook posts and Instagram photos represent you in the best way possible. Always think before you tweet! Before posting, it may be a good idea to ask yourself 3 questions: Is this okay for my boss to see? Is this okay for my grandmother to see? Is this okay for my little brother to see?

4. Attend the Fall Career Fair

Once your resume, LinkedIn and social media are edited and reflect your best, attend the Fall Career Fair to network with employers and stand out in the best way possible! This year, the Fall Career Fair will take place on Thursday, Sept. 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dress to impress and find out more here: Attend the FCF.

5. Visit the Career Services Center

Whether it’s to receive feedback on your resume or to gain professional insight and advice, there’s always a reason to visit the Career Services Center. Meet with your college liaison, practice interview skills, network with employers or attend a professional skills workshop. Whatever the case may be, UD Career Services is here to help you succeed.
